BIG EVENTS, BIG SCOOPS!!

A lot has happened since I last posted...the Lok-Sabha elections have begun- rolling the biggest cross country tamasha at full throttle (and there is no disrespect intended when I say- 'tamasha'), the trial of 26/11 accused Ajmal Kasab who opened fired at various points in Mumbai has begun after finally settling the confusion over who his lawyer is to be and of course the fiercely adamant IPL has started its second season by shifting venue to South Africa and beginning to make and spend abundant money in times of "recession fever" I must mention that apart from some of the often used English words that cross the language barrier like hospital, school, college etc and become a part of the general vocabulary...the recent word that’s crossed such language frontiers is -"Recession"... so much so that I even heard a kid claiming of carrying his favorite sandwich and chips to school to eat in the "Recession"!!!
All these three events being magnanimous in their importance and fervor one cant help but wonder about the discrepancies that peep through...
1) Unstained as their kurtas!!:
The straight-faced righteousness of the politicians- even when they are caught on camera distributing money and screaming obscenities!!! I cannot help but marvel at their shamelessness. That is of course not to take away from the good that they do for the society, do they? all the same...
2)Law-here, Law-there!:
This refers to the sudden appointment and removal of terrorist Kasab's lawyer- Ms. Waghmare. Ms. Waghmare was appointed by the court and it was known to most people- except the judge appointing her- that she was also representing a victim of the terrorist attack in which Kasab is an accused!!
The headlines beamed and the newsreader screamed of it but there was nothing happened until the first day of the trial when Ms. Waghmare was replaced on grounds stated above!!
I am tempted to believe that the concerned authority came across an old newspaper that must have been laid out as a table cloth during breakfast or must have been used by some car cleaner to clean the authority's car windshield while he was on the way to the court OR of course there is something MORE to it that we don’t know about, what could that be??
3) INTERNATIONAL PREMIERE LEAGUE??
Firstly, Many congratulations to all the concerned who managed to hold the IPL- Indian Premiere League in South Africa!! I cannot fathom how a tournament of this magnitude was shifted in the limited time to a new venue in a different continent! I also marvel at the adamancy of the organizers to hold the tournament at whatever cost and of course realize the economic stakes on this gala carnival of sport and glamour. The thing however baffles me the most is how Mr. Lalit Modi the Commissioner of IPL always appears so fresh and relaxed despite the long hours of work and heavy intensity of pressure that he claims to handle...well...he does, doesn't he??

The writer named- Destiny!

I've been reading very frequently about the "Slumdog Millionaire Kids". The glory they have been subjected to and the sharp contrast that they get pulled back into, after moment of glory. I hate to comment on the goods and bad's of issues i cannot influence thus my intention here is not to get into the morality of the phenomenon that the children from the Bandra slums have gone through but only to marvel at the writer called destiny and its amazing twists and turns...
As a scriptwriter you try hard to write something that has a shock value and yet is believable. Very often after writing something dramatic you analyse and dismiss it under the pretext of being too larger than life! and then you have a true story of the boy who has no roof to sleep under, is subjected to rat bytes and no school but shakes hands with the likes of Brad Pitt, Meryl Streep etc at Showbiz's most extravagant night- THE OSCARS!

I can only hope by some miracle- a word that I'm sure is not alien to their destiny now- the kids do remain sane and grounded and come across less fake people who exploit their blessings and innocence. It always makes me restless when anything happens in extremes- whether it is the good or bad, Once the balance is crossed it is anybody's guess.
